For the past couple days, I have put my computer away and enjoyed the Christmas holidays in Belgium. This has included: eating a ridiculous amount of food (my favorite of which is kroketjes, or mashed potatoes with a fried outer crust), attempting to speak several languages but mixing them all up, spending late nights in pubs playing board games about bean farming and world pandemics, and riding a roller coaster while singing 90s pop music at the “Winterland” Christmas market in a small Flemish town.

Somehow the holidays wouldn’t be the same if I was still on the equator.
